Submergence|y (2025)
Commissioned by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
Premiered as part of MSO's 2025 season launch through the Cybec 21st Century Australian Composers' Program. This orchestral work evolved from three years of regular swimming at Kingston Beach, where winter waters at 8-10°C compress the body differently than summer's warmer embrace. The composition's structural dissolution reflects water's refusal of containment—sections bleed into each other, challenging traditional orchestral sectionalisation and rehearsal processes.
